Attending the Traditional Latin Mass for the First Time
If you are attending the Traditional Latin Mass for the first time, it is perfectly fine to simply observe and pray. Many people find it helpful to take in the beauty of the liturgy by watching the sacred actions at the altar, listening to the prayers, and entering into a spirit of quiet devotion.
Families and children are always welcome, and many young families regularly attend the Traditional Latin Mass.
In terms of dress, people often dress more formally out of reverence for the Holy Mass, though modest attire is always appropriate. Many women choose to wear chapel veils or head coverings, but this is not required.
If you are unfamiliar with the structure of the Mass, do not worry about following along closely. Over time the rhythm of the liturgy becomes familiar and easier to follow.
Low Mass vs. High Mass
A High Mass (also called a Sung Mass) includes chant, sacred music, and more elaborate ceremonial.
A Low Mass is quieter and shorter. The prayers are spoken more quietly by the priest while the faithful pray in silent devotion.
